Classic Games | Skill Games | Board Games | Card Games

When I grew up in Tuscola, a small town in central Illinois, there was no such thing as video  games.  We did not even have a color TV, until I was in High School.

If you did not grow up in that era, you do not know what you missed.  However, remnants of the games we played are still bought and sold, and yes they are still played.  Just name a classic board game, skill game, or card game, and I have probably played it.

Although much simpler in concept, they were still entertaining.  We played them for hours on end, and they were a blessing, especially on those rainy days.

What games am I referring to?  I am sure you have heard of all of them.

As mentioned, a simple concept of game competition, they were also rated for all ages.  All you had to do is find someone to play with.  Even then, there were some variations that you did not need a gaming partner.

Funny thing...we did not refer to playing the games as gaming.  We just had fun playing them.

Here is a short list of some of the favorites:

Battleship, Stratego, Hearts, Spades, Checkers, Risk, Chess, Gin Rummy, Solitaire, Crazy Eights, War, UNO, Connect Four, Bingo, Backgammon, Chinese Checkers, Clue, Monopoly, Life, Mousetrap, Operation, Scrabble, Sorry, Yahtzee, Marbles, Euchre, Poker, Canasta, Parchesi, and Dominos.

Just think, a simple online search for the title, and you will probably find the original version, as well as the online version.  Thus, it can't be debated, these classic games will always be played by gamers, young and old.

They will, I am sure last much longer than the modern high tech video game.  Why do I say that?  The games of the past were not only entertaining, but they were games that even Mom and Dad played too.

I challenge anyone to name more than a couple of modern video games that Mom and Dad play too.
